Detection and investigation of traffic accidental land poi̇nts (Kastamonu example)

Today, in parallel with the rapidly increasing vehicle density around the world, an increase is observed in the number of traffic accidents. This situation has become a problem that requires a solution. It is extremely important to examine the observed traffic accidents in terms of reducing and preventing the number of traffic accidents. In these investigations, 'traffic accident black spots', which can be defined as the parts where traffic accidents are observed frequently, should be investigated. In order to prevent accidents on highways around the world, black spots are found and deficiencies are tried to be eliminated at these points. There are multiple methods for detecting these points. Ratio Quality Control Method is used when detecting black spots in our country. The aim of this thesis is to determine the black spots on the connection roads in Kastamonu district by using various methods used in the detection of black spots. For this, data on traffic accidents that took place on the connection roads of Kastamonu district between 2018 and 2022 were collected and used in the determination of accident black spots. Four different methods are used in the detection of traffic accident black spots and these methods are; Rate Quality Control, Number of Accidents, Incident Repetition Rate and Equivalent Weight Methods. A critical value was determined separately for each of these methods, Accident Number, Accident Repetition Rate and Equivalent Weight Methods, and the results obtained were evaluated within themselves. Traffic accidents in the research area were examined and analyzed according to the time they were made, the reason for their occurrence and the geometry of the road. If any, the reasons that make traffic accident black spots / critical accident spots black spots or critical points are listed and improvement suggestions are produced.
