Impact of driver personality on probability of making an accident in traffic a statistical analysis

As a result of rapid growth in population and increasing economic activities in developing countries like Turkey,number of vehicles increase sharply which is considered as one of the major causes of traffic accidents.Traffic accidents are one the leading death factors in our Country.In 2007 roughly 4580 people lost lives in traffic accidents. The most deadly cause is human error among many others.Past studies reveal 95% of the accidents are due to human errors such as driver behaviors, skills, driving techniques or accident prone personality traits. These are ignorance of rules and road conditions; lack of driving skills; poor judjement; inability to conform with changing conditions and aggressive driver behavior.The main objective of this study is to identify driver behaviors in Turkey and find out the impact of these behaviors on traffic accidents and traffic security.This study also covers examination of driver characters with high probabality of causing an accident and produce solutions to reduce accidents as a result of the study.The main data source of the study is based on questionnaire filled out by 2018 drivers.In order to specify the social and personal congruity of the drivers we implemented Hacettepe Personality Inventory. Driving experience of the drivers, their past, alcohol habits, number of accidents that they were involved and demographic characteristics are specified with the Traffic Security Survey.Accorrelations between variables are examined through correspondence analysis.By application of SWOT analysis, strengths,weaknesses,opportunities and threats of the driver profiles on probability of causing an accident are specified.
