Evaluation of current approaches on antibiotic usage among dentists in the Thrace Region

In this study, the aim was determined to evaluate the current behavior and knowledge of dentists in the Thrace region regarding the use of antibiotics. In line with this determined purpose, the studies and researches contained in the literature on the subject have been reviewed. As a result of the literature review conducted, the title and information related to the subject of the research were included in the research. Material and Methods: The research is a cross-sectional study which is one of the quantitative research models. Edirne Oral and Dental Health Centre (ADSM), Tekirdağ ADSM, Çorlu ADSM, Çerkezköy ADSM, Kırklareli ADSM, Trakya University Faculty of Dentistry, Tekirdağ Namık Kemal Faculty of Dentistry and 897 dentists working in the public and private sector in the Thrace region constituted the population of the study. The study was carried out with 281 participants in the form of an online survey. A cross-sectional and internet-based questionnaire with 35 questions was designed in electronic environment. SPSS (Statistical Program in Social Sciences) 22 programme was used to analyse the data. Results: As a result of the study, it was determined that the participants used antibiotics before and after the procedure for treatment for various reasons. Their level of knowledge about various events was determined. Conclusion: Current protocols for prophylaxis of infective endocarditis should be followed and prophylaxis should be applied in indicated cases and unnecessary antibiotic use should be avoided in non-indicated cases. In order to prevent infective endocarditis, antibiotic prophylaxis should be applied only for patients in the high-risk group. Keywords: Rational Antibiotic Use, Antibiotic Use, Dentists, Dentistry
