Abstract (EN)
Aim & Scope: Gender dysphoria is characterized by high discomfort from the differences between gender that is manifested at birth and by the person manifested or experienced. Testosterone treatment has an important place in medical care in trans male individuals who are born in female biology and who define themselves as male. However, few studies so far have focused on the anger expression, gender roles attitude and changes in body perception that testosterone use can create in individuals with gender dysphoria. In this study, it is aimed to investigate the relationship between testosterone treatment and anger level in transgender individuals and the effect of gender roles on this relationship. Method: A total of 57 trans men who did not receive hormonotherapy (n = 27) and received hormonotherapy (n = 30) were included in the study. "Trait Anger and Anger Expression Scale", "Gender Roles Attitude Scale" (GRAS) and "Multidimensional Body- Self Relations Questionnaire" (MBSRQ) applied to all participants . In addition, a data form was used to evaluate the sociodemographic characteristics of all participants. The data obtained were evaluated for both groups, and the group receiving hormonotherapy was further divided into two subgroups: those who received hormonotherapy for less than six months (n = 10) and those who received hormonotherapy fors ix months and longer (n = 20). In statistical analysis, Pearson Chi-square and Fisher's Exact test was used to compare categorical data between groups, and Mann Whitney U was used to compare continuous data between two groups, and Kruskal Wallis was used to compare continuous data between more than two groups (posthoc Bonferroni correction was used for significance). The relationship between the variables was evaluated by pearson correlation analysis. p <0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: In our study, we found that with an rise in the duration of hormone therapy the tendency towards anger increased. The positive body perception was significantly higher in trans male individuals who received hormonotherapy for more than six months compared to trans male individuals who received hormonotherapy for less than six months. When the gender role attitudes of the participants were evaluated with TCRT, it was found that the all groups had an egalitarian attitude in general. Conclusion: To our knowledge this is the first study to examine the impact of hormonotherapy on trans male individuals of aggression, body image and gender role attitudes. In our study, it was found that there was a positive change in body perception with hormonotherapy. It is known that negative attributes in body perception are at the forefront in individuals with gender dysphoria and body perception in human life is related to psychosocial adjustment and well-being. In our study, it was found that the tendency to get angry is in an increasing trend with hormonotherapy. It is the ability to control the anger emotion, which keeps one's feeling of anger -expressed by directing them inside or outside- on a healthy state. Therefore, anger tendency and expression styles should be made a part of the psychiatric evaluation, especially in the clinical evaluation of trans male individuals receiving hormonal therapy.
