Özet (EN)

Mahmud II made new and radical reforms in the Ottoman State organization during his reign. During this period, while the central and provincial organization was restructured, population censuses were also initiated. The male population was recorded in detail in the censuses conducted mostly to determine the military power of the state. The female population was not counted. These population books contain important demographic information about the Anatolian and Balkan lands of the Ottoman Empire in the 19th century. With the proclamation of the Tanzimat Edict in 1839, the reform efforts initiated by Mahmud II accelerated and the classical institutions of the Ottoman Empire were replaced by modern institutions. The provincial administration was also affected by this change in Ottoman institutions. In 1842, provinces were divided into sanjaks, sanjaks into kazaks, and kazaks into villages, and based on this arrangement, population censuses in the Ottoman provinces were recorded in books in this way. Within the framework of the relevant regulation, Yıldızeli is seen as an accident under Sivas province. The Muslim Registry of the Sivas Province Yıldızeli kaza, numbered 2496, which we are working on, is located in the Presidency of the State Archives of the Presidency with the code NFS.d and the sequence number 2496. The ledger is dated 1256 AH (1840 AD). It is bound with a marbled cover. Its size is 20 x 55 cm. The total number of leaves is 236. The book is numbered in the style of a varak, and it is seen that the original numbering of the book skipped from the 91st to the 94th leaf. The ledger contains information about the demographic structure, social and economic situation of the period. This ledger provides information on the family names, personal names, military service, age, population movements and occupations of the people living in Yıldızeli villages. Only the Muslim population of Yıldızeli villages is recorded in this book. These villages are treated as a whole within the scope of the nahiyas and the income belonging to which timar, which mukataa and which foundation is recorded. In addition, it is also indicated which person was in charge of them. Total number of households in the villages: 1769 and the total male population: 5240. In the light of this information, this study aims to contribute to the history of the region and its demographic, social and economic situation.
