Transmedia Storytelling: Angry Birds Universe Sample

With technological transformation at the beginnings of the 2000s, convergence process, in which the lines between the means of communication and media have been blurred and the borders cannot be drawn, has started. Convergence has enabled mass media functions even in micro devices, and enabled omnipresence for the internet. This way, individuals have been activated adding production and participation thanks to interactivity to their passive relation to media such as watching, reading and listening. Media convergence has directed media producers to new pursuits and extended the connections with the intended audiences. New onnection form paved the way for the emergence of the term transmedia storytelling, and with the participation of the active audience, it has started to be commonly practiced. While transforming the media texts into a new aesthetic form, it has also enabled its consumer, who leads the fictional universe, shares his comments andopinions, and enlarges the universe with cooperation, to experience an enriched show business. This study consists of four chapters. In the first chapter, verbal, written, visual and digital culture elements which feed each other in historical process have been analysed. In the second chapter, terms such as convergence culture, collective intelligence, participant culture, web 2.0, fan culture and prosumer which have enabled the emergence and practice of transmedia storytelling, have been mentioned. In the third chapter, transmedia storytelling term has been explicated along with some examples, and in the last chapter, transmedia storytelling term has been analysed in the framework of Angry Birds' fictional universe.
