Abstract (EN)

Prostate cancer is one of the most common urological malignancies. Frequently PSA values, digital rectal examination and ultrasound guided prostate biopsy are used at detection. As known biopsy has many complications like rectal bleeding, infection, sepsis, hematospermia and hematüria. Also there are many studies about its impact on sexual or voiding functions and quality of life. In this study we evaluated the effect of prostate biopsy on erectile and voiding functions, quality of life, anxiety in 112 patients and compared their data before and after biopsy. We found that sexual and voiding functions ,life quality were worse after procedure, this situation continued for three months (p<0.05). Sexual and voiding functions, quality of life and anxiety of 25 patients using 5mg tadalafil before the procedure were significantly less effected than the 53 noncancer patients (p<0.05). When we compare the postbiopsy results of 34 prostate cancer patients with 78 noncancer patients, we found a significant worsening of sexual functions, quality of life and anxiety in patients with cancer (p<0.05).However no significant difference was observed on voiding functions (p>0.05). Prebiopsy PSA levels were similar in patients diagnosed as nodular hyperplasia, prostate cancer and chronic prostatitis (p>0.05). In conclusion; new management modalities await investigation to prevent or leşsen the complication rate of prostate biopsies. We also need prospective studies containing more homogeneus groups.
