Abstract (EN)

On this research there has been a working with Syrian asylum seekers so as to survey the frequency of Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and PTSD 's effect upon cognitions. By using two scales there has been face to face interviews in which participants have evaluated themselves. So as to measure the frequency of PTSD there has been used "Davidson Trauma Scale" and to measure cognition there has been used Post-traumatic Cognition Inventory. This research which continiued for two months-july/august 2017- has been as a work field in İstanbul' s five different districts where Syrian asylum seekers live densely. Though there has been many interviews only one hundred people' s (49 female, 51 male) exact data have been included to statistical analysis. So as to analyse the data there has been used SPSS package programme. It has been found out that %67 of participants lightly, %28 of participants have showed PTSD symptoms intensely. However %33 of participants have not shown sufficient symptoms to take PTSD diagnosis. Thereby it is seen that the frequency of Syrian asylum seekers PTSD is at high levels and Restoring and Excitement situation of those having PTSD diagnosis have differed meaningly. This difference's effect magnitude has been noted on high levels. Nevertheless it is seen that those having PTSD have still differed cognitionally compared to those not having PTSD and the effect of this difference is at high level. It is seen that for this cognitional differences while " one's own negative cognitions about himself" and "his negative cognitions about the World" have been on high level, at cognitions about the subject of "blaming yourself" have been on middle levels. Contrary to many works done beforehand which say being a woman is a risk factor upon developing PTSD, it is found out at this work that gender has nothing to do with developing PTSD. It is seen that losing a close relative and entering to Turkey legally or illegally have effect neither on developing PTSD nor on cognitions. It is observed that though these are the most interesting symptoms of the work there was serious concern and fear because of security while getting the data during these interviews. It is thought only if the participants did not have the concerns and fears mentioned above there could be achieved much more different results.
