Examination of alienation, the problem of becoming "self of the others" and relevant factors in individuals with traumatic experience

In this study, it is aimed to examine alienation, the problem of becoming "self of the others" and relevant factors in the individuals after terrorist attacks, which are one of the traumatic experiences, in terms of quantitative and qualitative aspects. Another objective of the research is to evaluate the individuals with traumatic experience psychosocially and to create a structured guide towards psychiatric nursing in order to present psychosocial nursing approach in consideration of the results obtained. The research is a field survey carried out with multimethod within the theoretic scope of Ego Psychology and Interpretive Phenomenological Approach. The universe and sample groups of the research, where multimethod is used, consist of individuals who continue to work in damaged work places, after the bombing terrorist attack, that are in the neighborhood of the street where the explosion happened at Kızılay Square in Ankara province on March 13rd, 2016. The quantitative part of the research is carried out with 64 participants, and Impact of Event Scale, Moral Orientation Scale, Defence Styles Questionnaire and Symptom CheckList are used as data collection tools. It is revealed with the data analyses that depersonalization is correlated with marital status, somatisation, anxiety and interpersonal sensitivity, besides there is a correlation between defence styles and psychological symptoms; between moral orientation and obsessive compulsive disorder, phobic anxiety and EK scale. In the qualitative part, semi-structured interviews with 11 participants are performed and the data obtained is performed in line with Interpretative Phenomenological Approach by means of MAXQDA plus10 qualitative research software. As a result of the analyses, five main themes as (1) assigning meaning to the experiences, (2) change, (3) coping styles, (4) post-attack reactions of the individuals, (5) expectations are generated. Findings are discussed in consideration of relevant literature, suggestions towards researchers are made for psychiatric nursing practitioners and post-traumatic psychosocial approach guide for psychiatric nursing is created.
