Abstract (EN)

Objective: Head trauma is a lethal, disabling, pathological condition requiring long term treatment and care. Thiopental and propofol infusions are frequently used for sedation in YBU. We aimed to compare the cerebral effects of propofol and thiopental infusion in experimental head trauma rats. Method: A.İ.B.Ü. Animal Studies After the 2017/04 decision of the Ethics Committee, 30 rats were included in the study. After trauma formation, the trachea was intubated using a 16 G intraocular from the fourth cartilage loop and mechanically ventilated. Control Group (Group K): blood sample taken at 4th hour. Propofol Group (Group P): A blood sample was taken at 4 hours after propofol infusion at 0.5 mg / kg / min dose. Thiopental group (Group T): Thiopental infusion was started at a dose of 140 mcg / kg / h and blood sample was taken at 4th hour. 4. The brain was removed by craniotomy at the hour and detected in a 10% neutral formal for histopathological examination. Findings: There was no significant difference between groups in NSE, GFAP, AST, ALT, Troponin values. The S100B values between the groups were significantly lower in the thiopental group than the control group (p <0.05). TAU protein values were significantly lower in the propofol group compared to the control group (p <0.05). There was no significant difference between TAS and TOS values between groups. The number of apoptotic cells in the propofol and thiopental group in the histological examination was significantly lower than the number of apoptotic cells in the control group (p <0,05). There was no significant difference in apoptotic cell count between propofol and thiopental groups (p> 0,05). There was no significant difference in the analysis of apoptotic cell counts in cortex and hippocampus regions (p> 0,05). Conclusion: We think that thiopental and propofol infusion after head trauma decrease apoptotic cell death and cause significant decrease in trauma markers.
