Economic analysis of broiler chicken farming enterprises in TRB1 region

In this study, an economic analysis of chicken meat production in the provinces of Elazığ, Bingöl, Malatya and Tunceli located in the TRB1 region was conducted. The primary data source for this study comprises production records from 162 broiler chicken enterprises, selected through a sampling method and operating under an integrated system in the aforementioned provinces. Using data obtained via surveys, the economic analysis focused on evaluating the enterprises' annual performance outcomes, along with a detailed examination of their profitability and productivity levels. The enterprises were divided into small (25,000), medium (25,001-35,000) and large (35,001 and above) scales according to their capacities. When the technical results for the enterprises participating in the study were examined, the average mortality rate was determined as 7.50%; the average live weight was 2,590 kg; the average fattening period was 41.57 days; the average fattening period was 5.39 units/year and the feed conversion ratio was determined as 1.659 kg. In total production costs across enterprises, 94.28% consists of variable and 5.72% consists of fixed costs. Feed (66.56%) ranks first among the costs constituting the cost, followed by chicks (19.54%), energy (5.13%), cleaning and disinfection (0.38%), general administration (1.04%), health (1.16%), maintenance and repair (0.48%), labor (1.83%), litter material (0.94%), catching and loading (0.56%) and depreciation (2.38%). The cost of 1 kg live weight maintenance was determined as 5.23 TL. Within the scope of the research, the European Efficiency Factor was determined as 346.26, feed partial efficiency as 0.646 kg and labor partial efficiency as 1 466.56 kg across enterprises. As a result; In the research region, large-scale enterprises stand out with their intensive production capacity and low mortality rate, while medium-scale enterprises reach the highest live weight but lag behind in terms of feed efficiency. Small enterprises, on the other hand, produce at lower volumes and encounter high mortality rates during the production process. As a result, the findings indicate that different production strategies and management models should be implemented based on enterprise scale in the TRB1 region. It can be concluded that the research outcomes may contribute to strategic decision-making processes, particularly in areas related to productivity, animal health, and economic sustainability.
