IX ABSTRACT: Dr. Mahmut KAYARDI Comparing the Coronary Lesion Rates in Diabetic and Non-Diabetic Patients with Pozitive Troponin Tests Cardiology thesis -Bolu-2007 Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a chronic disease with progressively increasing frequency. DM is now one of the first five diseases which have been causing death in many countries. The big part of these deaths are caused by cardiovascular diseases. DM accelerates the natural progression of atherosclerosis in all patient groups and causes more coronary artery lesions with more extensive atherosclerosis.Troponins are cardiac contractile proteins. They increase in the blood during cardiac ischemia. We compared the prevalence of coronary artery lesions in diabetic and non-diabetic patients with positive troponin tests. We used Gensini scoring and American Collage of Cardiology/American Heart Association ACC/AHA task force classification on coronary lesion morphology. In Cardiology Department of Abant İzzet Baysal Medical Faculty of Abant İzzet Baysal University, totally 54 patients were included in this study between November 2004 and November 2006. When diabetic and non- diabetic patient groups were compared, Gensini scoring was statistically more impotant in diabetic groups than non-diabetic group (pO.001). According to ACC/AHA task force classification on coronary mophology, there were founded A type lesions in 43 vessels (%41.3), B type lesions in 29 vessels (%27.8), and C type lessions in 32 vessels (%30.7).Coronary artery lesions were more extensive in diabetic group than non-diabetic group. It might be evaluated as an expected result. Positive troponin test can be used as a marker which points at more extensive coronary artery lesions in diabetic patients. Key words: Diabetes Mellitus, Coronary Artery Disease, Troponin
