Assessment of anxiety, depression, loneliness and stigmatisation in patients with tuberculosis

Abstract (EN)
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to assess anxiety, depression, loneliness and stigmatisation in patients with pulmoner tuberculosis. Materials and Methods: This descriptive and cross sectional study was conducted with 208 patients with tuberculosis (TB) at the inpatient and outpatient tuberculosis clinic of comunity hospital in Izmir. The data were collected by a demographic questionnaire and Tuberculosis Patients Stigma Scale (TNWP), Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HAD) and UCLA Loneliness Scale. Mean±Standart Deviation, correlation were used in statistical analysis. Results: The average age of subjects of the study was 45.5 ± 14.8 (31-60) years, and the majority were married (62%) and male (63%). It was found that 26% of the patients were at risk of anxiety, 60,5% of them were at risk of depression, approximately 80.2% of them were identified as they feel medium or high levels of loneliness. At the TNWP, it was found that 47.6% of patients' points they got at whole scale were over the average. Conclusion: As a result, it was found that the patients with TB were on low risk of anxiety and high risk of depression, and felt moderate and high levels of loneliness and experienced moderate level of stigmatization.
