Use of the material quarry in Fatmakuyu district of Tufanbeyli district in road construction

Abstract (EN)
In this thesis study,, limestone samples were taken from the quarry to examine its usability in ready-mixed concrete production, primarily in order to use the limestones of the Fatmakuyu neighborhood, which are characterized as the ariyet quarry located on the borders of the Tufanbeyli district of Adana province and used as a filling material in road construction in this context, as a more effective material in today's conditions, and then in road construction services, and then in physical, in addition, experiments were conducted to determine the chemical and geometric properties, as well as studies were conducted to determine the design of the mixture in order to be a bituminous hot mixture. When the results of the analysis were interpreted, it was found that the limestones contained >96% CaCO3, that the limestone impurity (SiO2, Fe2O3, Al2O3) was quite low, that there was a high proportion of calcite minerals as a result of XRD analysis, that there was a limestone whose main collogenesis was calcite as a result of thin sections taken for petrographic examinations. In terms of physical properties, it was determined that the unit volume weight is greater than 2.55 g/cm3, the water absorption value is 0.74 with a prozite of %1.599. The Los Angeles wear experiment shows that the wear loss values are <30% and the geometric properties are suitable for ready-mixed concrete and bituminous hot mix. Marshall briquettes were prepared for bituminous hot mixture design and the optimal bitumen ratio was determined and the optimum bitumen content was determined as 4.5%. The prepared marshall briquettes and cylindrical concrete samples were subjected to uniaxial compressive strength and their strength was determined. When the experimental results were evaluated, it was seen that Fatmakuyu ariyet quarry has usable properties in road infrastructure construction, road superstructure in concrete production (Bituminous Foundation, Binder, Surface Coating aggregate). It was found that the SiO2 and MgCO3 values were not suitable for the use of the thermal power plant located in the region for the purpose of treating flue gases, and it was determined that its use was not suitable for this purpose. Considering the ease of production, it is thought that its advantages should be evaluated.
