Abstract (EN)

The purpose of this study is to determine the knowledge levels of men and women aged over 18 about use of hair care products and differences between their knowledge levels and gender. In this research, descriptive research method based on screening model is used. Screening models are defined as research approaches aiming to describe a past or a current situation in the form that it exists. The survey form is used as the data collection tool for this research. A preliminary conversation is made with 15 people who are determined randomly among academicians, teachers and master trainers who have knowledge about this subject for to prepare the survey and the expert opinions are collected. As result, a survey with 50 questions is prepared and applied on the sample group composed of consumers who use hair care products. The total of 7,362 thousand women and men consumers aged over 18 who are living in urban areas, employed in various professional fields and supposed that their habit of using hair care products is high constituted the population of research according to the data of Turkish Statistical Institute (TSI). 201 people who are selected from Istanbul province which has the highest population density in Turkey by random sampling constituted the sample of research."SPSS 18.0" statistical software is used in evaluation of the data obtained from the applied survey. The distribution of frequency (N) and percentage (%) of opinions of survey and their arithmetic means are calculated. "t test" is applied to the opinions about use of hair care products in order to determine if there is a difference between men's and women's opinions. p=0.05 significance level is determined for the detection of significance.Because of the reason that Significance Level (P) < ? = 0,05 that it is concluded that all variables does not show normal distribution. According to the results of this test, it is seen that there is significant difference between the opinions of groups constituted from both males and females for 5 questions of 30 and it is seen that there is not any significant difference for the rest 25 questions between these groups. The differences between knowledge levels of men and women aged over 18 about use of hair care products and differences between their knowledge levels and gender are determined by taking frequencies, percentages and the t-test results of data obtained from the given answers to questions of the survey in the result of research. Keywords: Cosmetics, Hair Care, Hair Care Products
