Nomofobia as consumption: Addresing media addiction in cinema

Abstract (EN)

This study aims to investigate how the concept of nomophobia (fear of staying away from the mobile phone), which is considered as a dise of our age and a new type of addiction, is handled in cinema. The concept of nomophobia; We cannot separate from netlessphobia (Fear of Being Without Net), FoMO (Fear of Falling Back in Developments) and plogamania (Charging Addiction). The five films Nerve, Airplane Mode, Men, Women, Children, Nosedive, Virtual Lives, which were shot between 2012 and 2020, which are abject of the study, were analyzed over macro and micro structumicrostructureshod of critical discourse analysis. Within the scope of the macro structurmacrostructure and schematic structure of the film, and within the scope of the micro structure microstructure structure, rhetoric, sound and music of the film were studied. In addition, the mobile phone image in the cinema and the alternation relationship between human and vehicle; Cyberbullying was analyzed with five themes: loneliness, addiction, alienation and simulation. In the research, it was concluded that addiction creates a new reality, a simulative universe in the lives of individuals, constructing loneliness and alienation in their selves, and reproducing this addiction as an extension of the network.
