Transformations in the social structure affect the spiritual life of the individual and shape the self. Being one of the most important concepts of psychoanalytic theory, which is becoming more and more widespread today, narcissism, which is frequently used in daily life, is becoming the psychopathology of our age. Narcissism is not only a psychological concept, but also a cultural situation. For this reason, it is necessary to consider and evaluate narcissism within the context of changes in the social structure and cultural structure. In this context, the thesis; examines the conditions under which today's consumer society triggers and nurtures narcissism by transforming the lifestyle and identity of the individual, and how this situation is reflected in social life. In the first chapter, the meaning of the concept of narcissism is explained and its origin, types and dimensions are emphasized. In the second part, the development process of the consumption society and the consumption culture are mentioned, and the effect of consumption on identity is examined. In the last part, the relationship between the elements of consumer society and narcissism is analyzed and the social consequences of narcissism, which has become widespread, are discussed.
