Abstract (EN)
The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of chlorhexidine and probiotic solutions, which were used as subgingival irrigation agents together with full mouth debridement, on clinical parameters for treatment of chronic periodontitis patients. A total of 30 patients aged between 25-63 who were referred to the Department of Periodontology of Çukurova University, Faculty of Dentistry were included in the study. The patients were randomly and equally divided into 3 groups. Before the treatments, clinical intraoral photographs were taken and clinical parameters (pocket depth, gingival recession, clinical attachment level, gingival index, plaque index) were recorded. Initial treatments were performed according to the full-mouth debridement procedure performed in 1 or 2 sessions within 24 hours. Sterile saline was used in the control group while chlorhexidine or probiotic solutions were used in the test groups as subgingival irrigation agents. Afterwards, mouth wash forms were given to the patients to use twice a day for 10 days in accordance with the irrigation agent used. 1st and 3rd. months controls were performed and clinical parameters were recorded. At the end of 3 months, there was a statistically significant decrease for pocket depth, plaque index and gingival index scores and gain in clinical attachment levels in all 3 groups compared to baseline. No statistically significant difference was observed between the 3 groups and the dual groups at the 1st and 3rd months. There was no statistical difference between the groups in the gingival recession findings in the 1st and 3rd months. Although there was no statistical difference in baselinel values of the gingival recession findings between the groups, a statistically less reduction was observed in the probiotic group, compared to the saline group.
