Abstract (EN)
Tunneling plays an indispensable role in major infrastructure projects such as the development of modern transportation systems and the extraction of natural resources. However, many of these major construction projects pose major engineering challenges due to ground conditions. Ground conditions can have a direct impact on the safety and efficiency of tunneling projects. Therefore, ground improvement and ground stabilization are of vital importance in the tunneling industry. This thesis aims to investigate the application of rock bolts for ground improvement in tunneling. Rock bolts are a ground improvement and tunnel support technique used in the tunneling and mining industries. These devices are long steel rods inserted into rocks and are used to anchor and reinforce the rock mass to the inner surface of the tunnel. The main purpose of rock bolts is to increase the stability of the ground in the tunnel and provide protection against subsidence or collapse. Tunneling projects often encounter hard rocks, soils or other geological formations, and the properties of these soils have a major impact on the success of tunneling construction. The main ground problems encountered in tunneling projects include subsidence, surface seepage, rock rupture and collapse. These problems can jeopardize worker safety and increase the cost of projects. Rock bolts are a widely used technique in tunneling for ground improvement and support. These bolts are used to increase the stability of the ground and reduce the risk of subsidence. The application of rock bolts can vary depending on the ground conditions, project specifics and safety requirements. Therefore, proper design and application of rock bolts is vital to ensure the success of tunneling projects. This thesis will focus on the details of the use of rock bolts for ground improvement in tunneling, examining how these techniques work, under what conditions they are effective and what their advantages are. This thesis will make a contribution to ground improvement and safe construction in the tunneling industry.
