Tourism education of university students who are taking examination of their views about a career plan

Abstract (EN)

The aim of this research is to determine the expectations of Tourism Management Education?s undergraduate and post graduate students about the sections, institutions and positions in which they wish to work after graduation while making career plannings.The datas have been collected by using the questionnaires filled by 533 students who agreed voluntarily to be part of this research. The reliability of the data has been found as Chronbach ?:0,8563. In the analysis of datas, ?percentage?, ?frequency?, ?t-test? and ?single-factor variance (Anova) analysis? have been carried out.According to the findings of the study, 48,2% of the participants want to work in private sector after graduations and 55,5% of the participants plan to be senior managers. The highest expectations of the students, from the institution where they will be working, are that they shall love their work and the opportunities of career advancement in the institution. Female students care more about the physical conditions, justice in the workplace and appreication of rewarding than compared to male students (p<0,001). The average grade given to the wage by 2-year college students is 4,32±ss, while it is 4,51±ss as per the 4-year faculty students; and the difference is statistically important (p<0,01). First grade students? average score about the provision of health care for the employees by the institution is 4,28±ss, that of second grade students? is 3,99±ss and that of third grade students? is 4,05±ss; and the difference is statistically important (p<0,01). Also in the research, the differences between the expectations of students from the work place are found statistically important as per the gender, duration of their study, the reason of their selection of the school, their grade and their expectation for the work place in which they wish to work (p<0,05).Key Words: Tourism Students, Career Planning, Career Choice
