Abstract (EN)

THE SELECTION and SUCCESS FACTORS OF EXPATRIATES IN TOURISMSECTOR-MEHMET UTKU ATMACAABSTRACTTurkish tourism sector holds an important place in macro economics indicators of its ownbecause of providing high ratio employment and foreign currency income. Cause ofcompetition and being easy affected sector by crises the sector has not continuous growth rate.In this study, it is aimed to observe the benefits of employment of the expatriates both to thesector and to the firms.This thesis consisted of six sections. In the first section, an expatriate concept has beendefined, selection process and the problems in selection process have been tried to expose.In second section, an adjustment process of expatriates and the problems of expatriates inadjustment process have been dealed with. Problems have been detailed by such conditions.In third section, success factors of expatriates and the parameters which affect expatriatesuccess have examined.In fourth section, the cost dimension of expatriates has been observed. Methods whichwere used to decline the cost by home company and host company have examined.In fifth section, evaluation of expatriates? performances have been observed to measurewhether they are successful or not.In the last section, the area research conducted by structured interview technique regardingthe selection and the success factors of the expatriates who were employed in the five starshotels and first class holiday villages that are settled in Antalya and its surrounding has beenpresented. Corporates? tendency about expatriates has been examined and suggestions havebeen brought for Turkish tourism sector related to this tendency.
