Tourisms effects on local people and kuşadasi pattern

In this study, it is aimed to study literature on tourism and tourist concepts and also latest data about world tourism and Turkish tourism are presented. Especially Turkish tourism is detailed in a comparative way of the annual values from the very beginning of Turkish tourism. In the study the ways to develop Turkish tourism industry are also mentioned. The main hypotheses examined in the study are Butler's, Doxey's, and Murphy's theories. In those theories, basically it is said that while tourism develops (number of tourist increases) within a settlement, local population behaving kindly and friendly towards the tourists would change their behaviours through negative direction, because of the suspicion about long run economic, social and environmental benefits of tourism. The main purpose of this study is to examine whether these theories are relevant for the places economically dependent on tourism such as Kuşadası. Kuşadası where is a important tourism center in Turkey is the main subject of this study. For this site survey, Kuşadası is chosen because, tourism industry have located there for a long time, tourism is the main income source of Kuşadası people, it is close to other tourism centers and the characteristics of the Tourism industry in Kuşadası are similar with many tourism center in Turkey. Kuşadası is studied in details about its nature, meteorological properties, its history and tourism industry. Both for tourism supply and tourist demand in Kuşadası, the latest data of tourism industry is compared with the past years data. At last part of the study, the results of the questionnaire done in this study is presented and interpreted due to demography frequencies, factor analysis, and regression test results. This study is done to point out economic, social and environmental effects of tourism in Kuşadası and to point out the approaches of Kuşadası population towards tourism, their expectations from tourism development, and what kind of tourism local people wish. By this study, it is obviously seen that most of the benefits of tourism are gained by very little part of Kuşadası population and most of Kuşadası people are in the low income group. In spite of this fact, most of Kuşadası people support tourism because they think they could reach their economic and social expectations only by tourism.
