Performance analysis with WASPAS method in Turkish banking sector

Abstract (EN)

Examining the structure of the Financial Sector of Turkey it is seen that the share of banks in total assets is more than 85%. The banks that have a significant share in the financial sector also have important functions within the economic system. Some of these functions are provide financial intermediation, maturity harmonization, national and international trade promotion, liquidity provision etc. In this context, bank performance analysis is an important concept in terms of competitiveness of banks as well as customer portfolios and national economy. In this study, the financial performance analysis of the top 10 deposit banks according to the asset size of Turkish Banking Sector for the period of 2006-2017 was performed by means of 50 financial ratios determined by using Entropy and WASPAS methods from Multi Criteria Decision Making Methods. Entropy method was used to determine the weights of financial ratios. After that, banks were ranked according to their financial performance with WASPAS Method. According to the results of study, the highest financial performing banks have been Türkiye İş Bankası A.Ş., Türkiye Halk Bankası A.Ş.,Türkiye Cumhuriyeti Ziraat Bankası A.Ş., the lowest financial performing banks have been Yapı ve Kredi Bankası A.Ş., Türk Ekonomi Bankası A.Ş., Denizbank A.Ş..
