The role of Turkish tile art in tourism and new design suggestions

All the data collected regarding life and experiences have a significant place in the history of humanity. The concept of journey, which has a past as old as human history, could be interpreted as a movement arose by the instincts of replacement. Fundamentally, the reason behind this replacement movement would be considered as the necessity to move in line with geographical conditions. However, the fact that the element of curiosity has an important share should not be ignored. Humanity has found answers to the questions emerged in its mind through the impulses of curiosity. Thus, they explored, and they learned. In fact, it is inevitable that this sense of discovery is also a part of the existential process. And the curiosity would be described as just the beginning of this inner journey, whereas discovery is the expression of this journey. It is a known fact that travelling is a concept as old as the existence of humanity. Because, abstract elements that generates the structure of the concept maintain their traces substantially ever since. Anatolia, which had been the homeland of many civilizations in the past, left its marks with cultural and historical richness and thus had an influence to constitute an ethnic identity. As a part of this intercultural interaction, the current state of Tile is evaluated within the context of tourism in this study. With the selection of touristic regions, the city of Izmir is exemplified by the data reflecting its own culture. Concrete examples arose by this study aimed to express the concept of culture with an artistic interpretation. As this manner of expression reaches a certain level, the phenomenon of culture will continue to live and survive.
