Abstract (EN)

Masculinity which has an active role in the creating and maintaining of the patriarchal system is a gender that is constructed and unstable. Furthermore, when the masculinity studies which are included in the gender studies are examined, it can be seen that there is no single definition for masculinity and that several varieties of masculinity must be mentioned. One of the important areas where these different masculinities are shown is the media. Media continuously reproduces different masculinities in society by presenting their representations. Today, in the media, TV series, which are one of the most followed program genres by the mass; It is known that they make a very effective presentation in the field of representation due to the characters they contain. This situation makes TV series important in the field of gender, especially masculinity studies. Therefore, in this thesis, representations of different masculinities in the media are examined through discourse analysis on the presentation of male characters in three different Turkish TV series broadcast in 2020 and 2021. At the same time, in this thesis; through the studied series and characters; It has been tried to determine whether the broadcasting understandings of the platforms and channels on which the TV series are broadcast show a difference in the establishment and use of representations of different masculinities. While studying, the concept of "Masculinities" introduced and conceptualized by Raewyn Connell was taken into consideration. To analyse, among TV series broadcasted in 2020-2021; men characters who were presented in the first seasons of "Masumlar Apartmanı", "Menajerimi Ara", and "Elli Metrekare" were chosen. In the results of this study, first of all, it was concluded that the representations of different masculinities in contemporary Turkish TV series reproduce the gender roles and hierarchy constructed by the patriarchal system. Secondly, it was determined that the broadcasting understanding of the platforms and channels where the TV series were broadcasted did not have any significant difference in the establishment and use of different representations of masculinities.
