Criticism in Turkish literature 1980-1990

This thesis, titled Literary Criticism in Turkey (1980-1990), aims to reveal the panorama of the period in this context by analysing the qualities of the critical texts of Turkish literature written and published as a book in 1980s thus approachs and arguments of the critics are going to be specified. Our study includes all the books that we detect and contain critical thoughts, regardless of the literary genre, which were first published in 1980s. We determined that some of these books were created by combining old dated texts that were written before the time period in which we limited our thesis, and we deliberately left them out of the scope as they reflect the critical perspectives of other periods. In this context, we have included the books containing both the old dated and 1980s dated articles. However we analysed only 1980s dated articles of them. In addition, the appendix at the end of the thesis includes a brief introduction of each of the books in the scope and the reasons for including the exceptions in our review. Our thesis consists of three parts. In the first chapter, criticism as a concept is explained in terms of its relationship with science, art and society in the context of literary criticism. Its change and development in history and Turkish literature are summarized. In the second part, relevant information has been given in order to make the texts within the scope more significative in social, political and literary sense. So the current issues, tendencies, problems and the literary qualities adopted are more defined in the grand scheme of things. In the thirth part, which constitutes the essential analysis part, the critical thoughts in the determined books were classified according to their content. In the conclusion part, arguments were made on the critical attitudes of the authors, their approaches to writers, poets and literary products. The qualities of the criticisms in 1980s are given as a result of this analysis. A decennium in academic research on criticism in literature has been analysed.
