Gulistan translations in Turkish literature and one of the authors of 17 th century Hocazâde Mehmed Esad Efendi's translation of Gül-i Handân (Terceme-i Gülistân)

The subjects of this study are translations of Gulistan in the Turkish literature and Esad Efendi?s work named Gul-i Handan (Terceme-i Gulistan). Gul-i Handan was reconciled to Sultan Ahmed First, and might be considered as the first translation in terms of fidelity that has been made so far among the other Gulistan translations. Esad Efendi, had been interested on the art and literature besides he had been holding the position of Shaykh al-Islam which is one of the highest authorities the Ottoman bureaucracy. The author, who has created works of poetry and prosaically in Arabic, Persian, Turkish languages, had also translated an ethical / moral book -which was listed among the classics of oriental of the 17th century- with various additions to Turkish and fulfilled the responsibility of being an intellectual and gained an important study to the Ottoman literature.This work is composed from four parts after the "Introduction" part. In the "Introduction" part it has been attempted to provide information about translation and annotations of Gulistan. In the first part, introductive information about the life, works and literary aspects of Esad Efendi is provided. In the second part, the concept of Gül-i Handan, the reason of the copyright, the word existence, the harmonic elements, the local elements, observation of the marginal texts and orthographic features are emphasized. In the third section, Gül-i Handan and Gulistan are attempted to compare through the perspectives of structure and content. Then, the evaluation of the copies, issues related to text detection are handled and the construction of the text and the method of spelling are described. In the fourth chapter, the transcribed text of Gül-i Handan is provided.
