Examining characteristics of individuals in terms of Turkish education system

The aim of this research is to examine the characteristics of individuals that the Turkish education system wants to raise, to reveal the problems experienced in this process and to carry out the necessary evaluations. In accordance with this purpose, the embedded single case study design was used in the research. Research data were collected by document analysis technique, which is one of the data collection techniques in qualitative research. As document, "general objectives in national education", "regulation on pre-school education and primary education institutions", " regulation on secondary education institutions", "higher education law", "general objectives of the curriculums revised in 2018", " acquisitions in curriculums revised in 2018", "textbooks in practice in the 2019-2020 academic year" were examined. Content analysis was used in the analysis of the data. As a result of this research, it has been set forth that the characteristics of individuals that are desired to be educated within the scope of general objectives of national education are not reflected in the curriculum and textbooks. It also has been observed that general purposes, regulations, curriculums, and textbooks do not have similar qualifications in terms of the characteristics of individuals desired to be raised within the Turkish education system. It has been detected in the general purposes of the curriculum, that the characteristics of individuals that are desired to be brought in are not reflected in the acquisitions in the curriculum. On the other hand, it has been detected that the characteristics which are most desired to be given are related to "personality and character", "not behaving with divisive and destructive purposes", "balanced and healthy development", "basic skills", "residence and environment characteristics", "Turkey", "food", "savings", "cleanliness", "Allah", "friendship", "goodness", "Atatürk" and "Ottoman State".
