The usability of Turkish folk music and traditional Turkish music melodies in string instrument education: A systematic review study

This research aims to examine the studies carried out using folk melodies in string instrument education in our country, with a systematic reviews method. When we look from the past to the present, we see that Turkish music is of great importance both in transferring our culture to future generations and in instrument education and performance. However, it has been seen that the resources on the performance of Turkish music melodies in string instrument education are not sufficient, the students who receive string instrument training do not have enough knowledge and equipment to sing the comatose sound and technique based on the Turkish music melodic structure on their instruments, and for these reasons, it is seen that the lack of resources can be used to train Turkish music melodies in string instruments education. In this study, it was aimed to examine and compile related researche's to gain the right playing techniques and vocalization skills in line with their goals and to contribute to the literature by carrying Turkish music melodies, which are the products of our original culture, to universal dimensions. In this direction, academic studies on the use of folk music melodies in string instrument education between 2001-2020 were scanned and analyzed with the method of systematic compilation study. 39 academic studies, 15 of which are master's theses, 4 of which are doctoral dissertations and 20 of which are articles, have been compiled in terms of their contributions to violin, viola and cello education. Folk melodies used in the compiled studies were examined under four headings in terms of purpose, method, musical characteristics, and results. In conclusion, in this study, which was structured according to systematic review, it was determined that most of the research compiled were descriptive in nature. The data were mostly created using interview technique and content analysis was the most used data analysis method. When the musical characteristics of the works are examined, it has been determined that the Hüseyni maqam and the 2/4 method are used the most, and the Central Anatolia region is the region where the most intense folk melodies are used.
