Turkish folk music reaching the public contribution of radio programs determinations

Minstrels and amorouses have played an important role in transforming the Traditional Turkish Folk Music (TTFM) from the past to the present. However, over the time, the communication tools like radio started to take over the mission of amorouses because of various factors. For this reason, the development process of radio and the effects of radio programs on the Turkish Folk Music is seen as an important subject of research. In this study, the historical process of radio as a tool of communication and the development of radio broadcasting in Turkey have been touched upon. The present study, which has analysed the roles of radio and its programs on the transmission of Turkish Folk Music to the public will contribute to the literature in many areas. It is a descriptive study and it is aimed to make due diligence. During the research process, written and digital literature review were done. Questionnaire technique was also used in order to obtain the findings and opinions about the subject. When some of the research results are listed; radio has played an important role in transmitting the Traditional Turkish Folk Music to the public, it has contributed to the introduction of vocal and instrumental artists in the folk music area, it has played an important role in the recognition of Turkish Folk Music genres by the public and it has also pioneered the recognization of Turkish Folk music terminology among the public.
