Özet (EN)

The incidents resulted from a defect on a ship and/or conluded with injuries which are resulted in death/danger of death and complete/partial member loss related to ship ; the incidents that cause fatality, ship-wreck, abondenment, ship loss, serious damages on ship, ship collision, grounding, and environmental damages caused by ship/ships are defined as ?marine accidents?. The researches on marine accidents have offered lots of factors causing accidents. These can be classified as natural factors, human factors, and technical factors. This study mainly focuses on technical factors by examining machinery defaults, excluding the natural factors that include non-controllable variables, and human factors that include socioeconomic and psychological variables of crew. The study has been supported by the database that includes the years between 1998 and 2006 and is constituted by Undersecretariat of Marine Affairs Main Search and Resque Coordination Centre and Marine Accidents Investigation Commision. vii Finally, the fact that the effects of machinery on marine accidents on Turkish Territorial Waters are important is shown through the statistical analysis and interpretation of the data.
