Abstract (EN)

The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of paternalistic leadership behaviors in the organizations on Turkish Y generation workers. A research question focused on Y generation employees in Turkey if they want to work with a paternalistic leader. Looking at the general belief in the literature, it is predicted that generation Y will not want to work with such a leader. But culture is a time consuming and slow-moving phenomenon. Therefore, paternalism is still an important characteristic of our culture, as seen in many studies. In this sense, in this study, Y generation is independent, individualistic, innovative, etc. even though it is suggested that they continue to prefer a paternalistic leader because of the role of Turkish culture. In the study starting from the culture-organizational culture-management interaction, the cultural aspects of paternalism and the concept of paternalistic leadership are explained. On the back of, classifications of generation in the literature are also mentioned and the leadersip expectations of the generations are tried to be put on the axis of the Y generation. The data which obtain from the study were evaluated using various statistical analysis methods. These methods include; descriptive statistical analysis, t-test, one-way ANOVA, correlation and regression analysis. According to the results of the analysis even though the employees of Y generation are independent, individualistic, innovative etc. in the Western cultures, it is revealed that they continue to prefer a paternalistic leader because of the role of Turkish culture in our country. With the analysis, the assumption that want to work with a paternalistic leader of Y generation workers in Turkey were confirmed considerably. According to findings, leader's paternalistic leadership behaviors increase emotional attachment of Y generation workers by 44%.
