Importance and problems of maritime transportation in Turkish logistics sector

Nowadays, customers desire to buy the products and services which they wish to satisfy their needs, in the right time, place and with the best price. If they couldn?t find, they tend to buy another product and service. Therefore, it?s not enough to increase the diversity and quality of the products for the companies; fulfilling these demands on time is the most important subject. The effective and convenient solution is logistics for fulfilling the customer?s demands. The basic service that logistics serve to companies is, transport the right product and service to the right place, in the right time and appropriate conditions.It?s definitely true that foreign trade of Turkey, in terms of export and also import is considerable for the goals and place in present world economy. The important factor that provides the existence of foreign trade is logistics. Logistics is a new concept in Turkey. It became more important with export and import, then with the retails of big scaled and electronics trade.Maritime transport is the type of transport which is prefered mostly in international arena. It?s the most low cost and safe transport type. The products which can be containered and the hyper quantity of products transport with maritime. Turkey have a great important strategic location and also geopolitics importance and these factors are suitable for maritime transport, however Turkey could not use these advantages exactly. Because of not adopting themaritime rules and goals insufficiently, there are some kind of problems that effect the maritime transport negatively in Turkey. The purpose of this study is to show the problems of maritime transport and importance and place of maritime transport in Turkey.
