Tale is one of the folk narrations that public likes, in Turkish Folk Literature. The tale heros are animals, human beings, supernatural creatures. The plot takes place in tale country. Tale is one of the verbal accounts in folk literature, in which some fiction-based stories are told, which emerged from the common consciousness of the people and passed down from mouth to mouth, from generation to generation. In tales, one of the heros is the good old man. The good old man is the majer factor in realizing the hero's aims goals. The hero finds the good old man by him at his mast difficult moments, the hardest conditions. This is valid for all folk narrations. The features of the good old man, his functions in tales are stated by giving examples from the studied tales. Key Words: Tale, the good old man motive, the functions of the good old man.
