Abstract (EN)
Music is a language that unites people to each other without making discrimination among socities in terms of religion, language and race. That the matters reach enlightenment such as the emergence, development, interaction and spread of music and musical instruments certainly can not be thought independently from the etymology. Etymology aims to search and put forth the phases of a word with definite methods and principles. In order to monitor the historical development of the words in language, it is benefited from the etymology to search their phonetic, morphological and semantic formations. In this study the etymology of the names of musical instruments that Turks used has been searched. In the introduction part, a general information about etymology is given. A general information about Turkish music culture and history that constitute the framework of our study is given and the names of Turkish music instruments are listed in order. Turkish music instruments in Türkçe Sözlük of TDK printed in 2011 have been identified. In the dictionary part the etymology of these instruments' names has been carried out, in addition to the etymological information a general information about each instrument is presented and at the end of the explanations, the images of instruments are given. In the conclusion part the statistic information related to the origins of music instruments' names is reached and by dwelling upon this statistic information some findings have been identified.
