Homeland perception of Syrian high scool students under temporary protection in Turkish schools: The example of Mardin province

Abstract (EN)
In this thesis we have prepared, information on Syrian, who have been in Turkey with temporary protection status, youth's perception of homeland, identity status and cooperation sought to be detected. In order to make these determinations, the province of Mardin has been selected as a sample. The province of Mardin is home to a mass of immigrants fleeing the war environment in Syria, where they has come and continued their lives.Considering the period of stay of Syrian immigrants having migrated, the perception of homeland of immigrant youth emerges as an important issue required to be investigated. For this purpose, through field and field scanning carried out, theoretical knowledge was obtained and by preparing survey questions within the scope of this knowledge, a survey was conducted with the participants. While the participants answered the survey questions, the participants were observed and short conversations were held with the participants. By interpreting survey result in the light of theoretical knowledge, it was aimed to reach the findings on the subject. As a result of the findings obtained, It is seen that more than half of the participants have lived in Turkey for more than 10 years, they are accustomed to life, they experience a sense of belonging in Turkey, and the majority of them want to continue living in Turkey and demand Turkish citizenship. At the same time, in the findings, the majority of the participants considered both Turkey and Syria as their homeland. Also, as it can be understood from the findings, Syrian high school students who are under temporary protection and have been staying in Turkey for many years have demands to continue their lives in Turkey and for Turkish citizenship. Therefore, when the theoretical and practical part of the study is evaluated together, the homeland perception of Syrian high school students being under temporary protection and development of public policies related to this should be taken into consideration Key Words: Migration, Temporary Protection Status,Citizenship, Identity, Belonging
