Recep Seyhan in Turkish storyelling

This study examines Recep Seyhan’s storytelling through his six published short story books. “Çiçekler Kesti Selamı, Güneşin Doğduğu Yerde, Azazil’in Kapısında, Metal Çubukların Dansı, Zongo’nun Değirmeni and Bir Sepet Hayal. The author utilizes a unique style blending traditional narrative with modern short story techniques. Starting from his first book, Seyhan frequently addresses the sociological changes and transformations Turkey underwent between 1940 and 1980, shaping many of his stories around the axis of the province and animals, the individual and society. While carrying this perspective into his stories, he reflects the survival efforts of provincial people alongside the depression alienation and conflicts brought about by the migration process. Through clear language, his characters depict the tensions surrounding commitment to values. Consequntly, concepts like the province-city dynamic, migration and belonging constitute the fundamental core of his work Excluding the introduction, this study consists of four chapters. The first chapter focuses on Recep Seyhan’s life, storytelling and the literary development. In the third chapter, the prominent themes are examined, and the final chapter focuses on the structure and analyzes structural elements such as plot, narrator, point of view, characters, setting, and time. In conclusion, this study comprehensively explores the individual’s struggle for existence in provincial life, alienation, and the central place of natüre in Seyhan’s narrative world.
