Abstract (EN)
This research aims to address the phenomenon of objectification of the female body in Turkish popular music within the framework of concepts such as postmodern feminism, objectification, self-objectification and the music industry. The aim of the research is to understand how the bodies of female artists are objectified in the popular music scene in Turkey and the historical, social and sectoral contexts of this process. The study draws on the multiple perspectives of postmodern feminism to understand how the female body is represented and perceived within the music industry. Within this framework, the process of perception and use of the female body as an object is analyzed. The experiences and challenges of women artists in the music industry were also examined through a systematic literature review and audiovisual recordings. According to the results obtained, the objectification of the female body in popular music (indie and pop music) is grouped under three main headings. Firstly, female musicians in the mainstream pop music sector who objectify their bodies, secondly, female musicians who start in the indie music sector and change their image as their recognition increases and approach the image of mainstream pop music, and female musicians in the indie music movement who do not use their bodies as a means of objectification.
