Representation of the male hero in fantastic films based on comic books between 1960 and 1980 in Turkish film industry

This study discusses the representation of the male protagonist styled as "fantastic" films based on comic books produced between 1960 and 1980 in Turkish Film Industry. Accordingly, the study focuses on how the chain of tasks of the hero in the cited comic books as well as the chain of tasks of the protagonist in the adaptation of these comic books in Turkish cinema was established in the axis of the values that constitute masculinity. Concepts such as "fantastic" and "masculinity" were explained with the case studies which were conducted and development of the comic books in Turkey and in the world were explained. In this context, the oldest accessible issues of the sampled comic books named "Karaoğlan", "Malkoçoğlu" and "Superman", were read and "masculinity" values have been determined. Structural Analysis and Joseph Campbell's monomyth concept were explained in the part incident to the method. The sampled movies were analyzed according to the said monomyth concept in the Findings and Interpretation part. Purposive sampling was preferred due to the abundance of fantastic films produced between 1960 and 1980 and difficulty of accessing to the copies of most of them.
