Old age in internal migration films in turkish cinema after 2000

Thanks to advancing technology and medical services, it is known that the average human lifespan has increased. As a result, there has been a growing need to focus more on the concept of 'old age' across various disciplines. As in other disciplines, this concept is also a relatively new subject of study in the field of communication studies, which focuses on media, cinema, and television. Therefore, academic studies focusing on the representation of the elderly are also limited in number. This study aims to contribute to the literature on the representation of old age by examining aging in internal migration films in Turkish cinema after 2000. In selecting the films of the research, the films produced after 2000 have been included as throughout Turkish history, particularly in the Ottoman and pre-Ottoman periods, it was a country that primarily received immigration and due to factors such as the Industrial Revolution and the Marshall Plan in the post-Republic period, there are many films focusing on the theme of migration produced in the 1960s and later, reflecting the intensification of rural-to-urban migration and many studies having been held on these films and the concept of internal immigration has gained a new dimension as a result of global economy, international capital and technological developments. Descriptive analysis of nine characters from eight selected films revealed that elderly characters were portrayed with stereotypical physical traits, and that migrating elders experienced psychological distress, social decline, and character transformation. Based on these findings, recommendations were made for future research.
