Abstract (EN)
The relationship between social status, one of the main subjects of sociology, and nostalgia is discussed in this thesis along with the role of cinema in the reproduction of this relationship through representation via two examples of Turkish Cinema, which are Ah Güzel İstanbul (1966) and Muhsin Bey (1986). Historical and descriptive methods are used in this theoretical-research thesis. First, the change process in the socio-cultural structure in which the concepts that are examined in each chapter is discussed. Following the development process of these concepts in the social science literature, the question how their contemporary meanings are evolved is shared. In the last chapter, the analysis of the movies are included following the critical discourse analysis by Teun Van Dijk. The sociocultural, economic and political structures, the natural subject of the movies, which affect the nature of the two movies and the messages they deliver, are discussed, as well.
