Yusuf İzzet Akçal, who was born in Rize in 1906, is married and has 4 children. He is the father of Erol Yılmaz Akçal, one of the important figures in Turkish political history, and the uncle of Mesut Yılmaz. From his hometown Rize, he migrated to Istanbul with his family due to financial difficulties. İzzet Akçal, who worked and helped his family, continued his education and earned his law degree. After finishing school, he served in various places. In 1939, while he was serving in Erzincan, the great Erzincan Earthquake occurred. He briefly released prisoners from the prison for debris work. These prisoners, who did not escape, were later released with a special amnesty. Akçal, who showed great usefulness in the earthquake, was congratulated by the leaders of the period and awarded with a letter of appreciation. During his tenure as a prosecutor, he worked selflessly for the rehabilitation of prisons. Although he loved his job as a prosecutor, he became a candidate for the Rize Deputy from the Democratic Party in 1950. İzzet Akçal, who entered the parliament in the 1950 elections, was elected as a deputy of Rize in the following periods. Akçal, who continued his duty actively until the 27 May 1960 Intervention; Together with Celal Bayar, Adnan Menderes and Refik Koraltan, he was among those on trial in Yassıada. İzzet Akçal, opened about; He was tried in cases of Istanbul-Ankara Incidents, Violation of the Constitution, Arming the People, Illegitimate Wealth and Unfair Acquisition and Abuse of Office. İzzet Akçal was sentenced to life imprisonment instead of the death sentence requested. In 1964, Akçal was released with the Special Amnesty issued by Cemal Gürsel. İzzet Akçal stayed away from politics for a while, but in 1977 he became a candidate for Rize MP from the Justice Party. Akçal, who entered politics for the second time, decided to leave politics with the 1980 political intervention. He stayed away from politics until his death. Akçal died on 1 September 1987 at the age of 81.
