Mihri İffet Pektaş one of the first woman deputies in Turkish political life

Turkish women became more visible during the Tanzimat, II. Constitutional Monarchy and National Struggle period in several fields. According to sucess of the heroisms of National Struggle, Turkish women have obtained power in social life. Therefore, Turkish women have gained right to vote and stand for election in Grand National Assembly of Turkey on December 5, 1934. With the steps taken in 1934 in terms of obtaining the right to elect and be elected and participating in politics, Turkey has been the country that gave women political rights much earlier than many European countries. As a result of that effort, 18 women took a place after first election and the women representation rate was 4,5% among the total number of parliaments. One of these women parliamentarian is Mihri İffet Pektaş. In this study was aimed to examined the first woman parliamentarian Mrs. Mihri Iffet Pektas's personality, educational careers and activity in parliament that shows modern and contemporary female figure in Turkey At the same time, during the study was identified about Mihri İffet Pektaş's family life, political life, social and cultural activities, position in the Turkish Language Congress and her activites in the press under titles. Mihri Iffet Pektas one of the important woman politician who joined as volunteer worker of charities such as the Turkish Red Crescent, Child Protection Agency and the Fukaraperver Foundation.
