Abstract (EN)

In this study, the evaluation of working difficulties on employee turnover ratio in Turkish shipyards is studied. Works performed in the shipyards, carry very significant risks in terms of occupational health and safety. It is considered that the shipyard workers have a significant impact on employee turnover ratio because of that the job descriptions of shipyards are, in wide ranges, mostly profit-based, especially work-related accidents, the life and property losses experienced in these accidents, and the occupational diseases faced by shipyard workers. The issues -including the current situation in the sector, the social, cultural and economic situations of the shipyard workers, problems encountered, and the legislation about the elimination of those- discussed in the shipyards have been examined. In the thesis; qualitative research techniques were used such as literature research, interpretation and observation. According to the results obtained in this study, the main factors affecting the labor turnover ratio in Turkish shipyards have been identified as the occupational health and safety issues, the lack of trade union rights and freedoms, the social and economic problems of shipyard workers, the lack of skilled and educated workforce, the employment and productivity issues, high proportion of contract workers, the bad working conditions, and the lack of communication within the shipyard.
