Secularization and gender in Turkish society: A research on daily life practices focused on body

This research focuses on body oriented daily life practices in the context of secularization and gender phenomena in Turkish society. From the term religion and secularization, by looking at the term gender it deals with the religious anda secular aspect of body oriented daily life of men and women. On the other hand, from the term gender, by looking at the modernization, secularization and religion terms it examines how men and women are situated within the contex of this terms. In the research as well as qualitative method which used mainly, quantitative method is used partly in order to ensure the integrity. However, critical theory is also used. According to the research, it can be spotted that in the gender related body oriented daily life practices of Turkish society, there are both separated and interwoven examples of religious, cultural and secular forms. When how women and men are situated within modernization, sekülarization and religion of Turkish it is understood that male modernization generally corresponds to a depth within the boundaries of economy, public, production; female modernization generally corresponds to a superficiality within the boundaries of the body. While Turkish modernization operates on a superficial scale for women, it seems to have deeper dimensions for men. In addition, it is understood that by gendering secularism and religiosity, secularism is identified with men and religiosity with women.
