Abstract (EN)
The institutional, cultural and social characteristics of the nations affect their management theory and practices inevitably. This effect is an obstacle for the development of a universal typology, which may possibly be applied successfully all over the world. Therefore, it is very crucial to be able to answer the question of ?how to manage the company resources particularly human resources in an effective and efficient way? for each nation. Due to the fact that the management practices, which were originated from japan and anglosaxon cultures and have been imitated or adopted by turkish firms, have become questinable even in their motherlands indicates us they can no longer be a cure or can not be fruitful for Turkish companies. Hence, this reason stimulates the researchers to study on ?Turkish Style Management? in order to come up some essential ideas about the concept itself. In order to shed a light on the research problem mentioned above the aim of this study is to conceptualize a clear picture via investigating the management practices of turkish companies to present whether it is possible to discuss an understanding of ?turkish-style management?. The investigation of the management practices has been probed within the scope of some dimensions including organisation style and structure, human resource management, management process, and strategic management. To achieve this objective a questinairre was conducted to the top managers as well as the human resource managers of a certain number of turkish firms. Also, some of those top managers (more than thirty were interviewed. In addition to these quantitative and qualitative analyses life stories and web sites of some companies and their annual reports launched by Istanbul Stock Exchange were scrutinized within the context of the research questions. The results of the study indicated that although some similarities between turkish-style management practices and management practices from other countries such as japan, korean, and anglo-saxon were found in terms of the dimensions were analyzed, it is possible to see a conceptual existence of the term ?turkish-style management?. The findings clarify that especially, the parameters related to the dimensions of organisation style and management process, which the national culture and instituonal factors are more determinative compared to competitive conditions, are more distinctive than strategic and human resource management dimensions on which the competition has more effects.
