A threshold in Turkish administration literature: Business / Business Economics and Organization Magazine (1943–1948)

The aim of this study is to create a complete and detailed inventory by examining the whole articles of the "Business-Business Economics and Organization Magazine" published between 1943-1948, and to show magazine's importance by evaluating its task performed with the feature of being the first magazine focused on business issues in Turkey, on the basis of background information of the period. In the study, the situation of the academic and application fields addressed by the magazine was given together with historical developments. About the academic field, developments from the second half of the nineteenth century, in which the Hamidiye Trade School was founded to educate businessmen on academical terms, until the import of the business economy discipline from Germany in 1930s, are transferred. The deep-rooted post-republic changes that generates application field in 1940s -when magazine's publication period- of Turkey are explained in the historical course beginning with the nineteenth century, which houses the turning points of Turkish economic history. Ismet Alkan who brings the magazine to literature and his role are also introduced. All articles published in the magazine have been classified according to the existing chapter titles and their contents have been informed. According to the findings, most of the articles written in the textbook format were found to be accounting and organization-oriented, and besides, the information that reflects the mind and material situation of Turkey's academic and practical world was reached. The articles reflecting the social and economic agenda of the period were examined and the position of the magazine aimed at addressing the business world was revealed in the face of economic developments of the period.
