Abstract (EN)
Writing is one of the four language skills in Turkish language education. This skill is obtained in consequence of more complex and difficult education when compared to the other language skills. A basis of the writing skill is provided with some kinds of hand skill works in pre-school education term while this skill is gained with writing activities in the first-grade education. It is expected from students to develop the writing skill and to produce texts with less mistakes as their grades step up. However, this expectation may not be met satisfyingly each time. This condition causes interpreting writing mistakes by analyzing the writing ability incrementally and making suggestions for these interpreted mistakes to be rectified. In this study, it has been aimed to determine the impact of activity practices improved for four steps (word, sentence, paragraph, text) in writing on students' writing skills. This work has been performed with two sixth-grade classes in İbn-i Sina Middle School located on Yurtbaşı, Elazığ. One of these classes has been control group as the other one has been experiment group. Totally, there have been 38 students [(18) experiment, (20) control]. The students have performed activity practices during the research designed according to half-experimental pattern with the control group matched with pre-test – post-test. This process is one-class hour every week during five weeks. The texts acquired with the pre-test – post-test work have been analyzed through document analysis method. This examination has been assessed according to "İnventory Write Error of Assessment" prepared by researchers. Numerical values appearing as mistake points in the consequence of the examination have been analyzed both descriptively with graphics and inductively with Doubly Multivariate Analysis of Variance – Doubly MANOVA). In the consequence of the obtained data, it has been seen that activities performed on students related to the four steps in writing education have a positive impact on students' success. Besides, this study is significant to show that the activity practices related to four steps are improving for students who cannot literally acquire writing skill. Key Words: Writing skill, activities, writing steps.
