Abstract (EN)

The aim of this research is to reveal the research profile of the master's and doctoral theses prepared in the field of Turkish education between 1997-2020 in Turkey, to obtain findings that will guide the studies to be carried out from this point of view in the future by evaluating the studies especially in the context of consultants and jury members and to present data according to the fields of expertise of its members. In addition, it is aimed to analyze the postgraduate theses in the field of Turkish education in a holistic and systematic manner. In this context, the type of graduate theses subject to the research, the year they were prepared and the university, the institute they were made in, the generation of the university they were prepared in, as well as the descriptive features of the thesis advisor and the jury members, the h-index and citation numbers, and the distributions of the scientists who came from different higher education institutions and participated in the juries have been examined. The graduate theses examined within the framework of the research were downloaded from the database of YÖK Publication and Documentation Department National Thesis Center with the keyword "Turkish education". Among the theses accessed, 88 theses without full text access permission and 87 theses that do not have a direct connection with the field of Turkish education were excluded from the scope of the research. The sample of the study consists of 866 master's and 169 doctoral dissertations. Theses were analyzed using the "Graduate Thesis, Supervisor and Jury Review Form" developed by the researcher in accordance with the qualitative research approach. Descriptive analysis technique, in which the findings are described, explained and interpreted systematically and clearly, was used in the analysis of the obtained data. The findings are presented in graphics, frequency and percentage tables and discussed. According to the findings obtained in the research, it was determined that master theses were more than doctoral theses in all years, doctoral theses increased proportionally, and graduate theses had an increasing trend in a holistic sense. It has been observed that most of the theses were prepared in Gazi, Atatürk, Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart, Dokuz Eylül and Bolu Abant İzzet Baysal universities. In the theses made, the rate of educational sciences institutes was 64.64%, while the rate of social sciences was 34.30%. In the study, universities were divided into three generations according to their foundation years, and it was found that the theses were made in the first, second and third generation universities, respectively. It was determined that academicians with the title of doctor lecturer or assistant professor for master theses and professor doctor for doctoral theses gave more consulting. It has been determined that this situation is similar in master's and doctoral juries. Although the academicians who advised theses and took part in defense juries received Turkish education in the first place in the fields of science, it was observed that the influence of philology main fields such as Turkish language, New Turkish literature, classical Turkish literature, Turkish folklore, contemporary Turkish dialects and literatures was intense. It was determined that the performance parameters such as h-index and number of citations of scientists who are at the top in terms of consultancy and jury membership numbers are high. Academicians invited from different higher education institutions for the juries are preferred over the titles of doctor, lecturer or assistant professor in their master's theses, while the title of associate professor is higher in doctoral dissertations. It was found that the scientists who went to different higher education institutions for jury membership were mostly from Hacettepe University, followed by Gazi, Atatürk, Istanbul, Başkent and Ege Universities, respectively. Considering the results obtained from the research, some suggestions were presented. Keywords: Turkish Education, Graduate Theses, Thesis Advisor, Jury
