Evalution of academic studies made on values education in the field of Turkish education

Academic studies on values education have been recently increasing. It is observed that Turkish Language Education departments have also a growing tendency of working on this subject. Therefore, the aim of this research is to evaluate the studies on values education in the field of Turkish Language Education from a holistic perspective. In accordance with this aim, 137 accessible theses in the National Thesis Center were transferred to computer environment. Within the scope of the main problem and the sub-problems of the research, these theses were classified in terms of different variables such as years of publication, supervisors, subjects, data collection tools, research methods, graduate levels and having similar results. The data obtained from the theses were visualized using frequency and percentage. In this study, meta-analysis method, which is a document scanning method in scientific researches, was used. The study revealed that most of the studies on values education in the field of Turkish Language Education were conducted at master's level while the title of advisors were mostly professor. Inonu University has maximum number of studies on values education in the field of Turkish Language Education. On the other hand, Ataturk University is ahead of doctorate studies in this field. Internal structure analysis of the studies showed that 22.06% of the studies included other subjects as well as the values education, the studies examining more than one work of an author were common and 16 of the authors examined in this research were also studied by more than one researcher before. Moreover, internal structure analysis revealed that while Turkish course textbooks were examined most, the qualitative research was the mostly used research method and the document analysis was the mostly used data collection tool. Furthermore, it was obtained that the textbooks and 100 Fundamental Books specified by Ministry of National Education were inadequate in terms of values education, studies focused on love more than other values and children's magazines preferred giving advice rather than adumbration in the transfer of values.
